Twitter Users Can Now Schedule Tweets in Advance

Article Overview
10min readThe micro-blogging site Twitter has announced a new tool “Schedule Tweets” exclusively for Twitter Ads users, natively in the web app. This new feature, which was once only available with third-party tools such as Buffer and TweetDeck, is now openly available to all Twitter users. It lets the users create a tweet and schedule it by choosing a date and time (up to a year in advance) accordingly when the tweet needs to be sent out.
According to reports, from last November, Twitter had started experimenting with scheduled tweets and some users started receiving the feature earlier this month. They were looking to add the scheduling feature directly on the app. Though initially this feature was launched for a select group of users, now it’s being rolled out more widely on the Twitter web app. Before Schedule Tweets, users were using Tweetdeck to schedule their tweets or through third-party tools.
How to Create Scheduled Tweets
Twitter allows you to schedule both organic and Promoted-only Tweets to go live at a specific date and time. One can schedule Tweets within their ads account and add them to new and existing campaigns. It is great for Tweets that need to be posted on weekends, evenings, or other busy times when a user doesn’t have time to manually Tweet.
To create “Scheduled Tweets”, follow these simple steps:
- Compose your tweet and instead of hitting the send icon, click the calendar icon.
- A pop-up window displays an option to schedule tweets at any time up to 18 months in advance. Specify the exact date and time down to the minute.
- A list of all scheduled tweets (if any) are also visible in this window, where you can make necessary adjustments, if needed.
Your Tweet won’t be noticeable on Twitter or by any data partners until the date and time you scheduled. Most importantly, the scheduled Tweet will go live at the date and time you specified and the new live Tweet will have the timestamp of that specified time.
And again, remember, that this feature is only available on the web browser of Twitter and not yet been rolled out for Twitter’s official mobile app.
Things You Can Do with Scheduled Tweets
With Scheduled Tweets you can:
- Save time: Build your presence and audience while completing other important priorities.
- Foresee a Timely Opportunity: If you have a sale coming up and know that you’ll be too busy to step on Twitter to tweet about it, or worried that you’ll forget, then Scheduled Tweets are a greater option.
- Share Links: You can add links to your account and schedule them to be sent at specific times every day, and once in a while, fling in a “Promoted Tweet”.
- Targeting a Specific Geo-time Zone: If you have a lot of followers in another country, other than your local area and if their time zone is entirely different from yours, then schedule your tweets to their time (time-set is your local time). By doing so, even if it’s midnight, you don’t have to wake up.
- Testing Timing Effectiveness: If you wanted to find out the optimal time to tweet, use Scheduled Tweets. By spreading your tweets across multiple times, you can view the effectiveness of your tweets at all times. Once you see a particular time when a tweet got more traction, schedule your next tweet to be sent around that time.
Twitter’s another new feature: “Save A Tweet As A Draft”
Along with scheduled tweets, the web-based version of Twitter has also launched another new feature: save a tweet as a draft.
Saving drafts is a feature that’s embedded in Twitter’s mobile app and it works exactly the same way on the web version. One can save a draft on the mobile app and revisit it on the browser-based version of Twitter.
How to Save A Tweet As A Draft
- Compose your tweet and then click the ‘X’ button to close out of it.
- A pop-up window displays asking if you want to save what you’ve composed or permanently delete it.
- By choosing “Save” you will be able to keep the tweet as a draft and you can come back to it at any time and finish it.
The best part of these features are that both scheduled tweets and save as a draft are all directly available from the tweet composer window. Also, this feature allows enough time for Twitter users to put more thought into what they’re sending out to the world.
