Pinterest Rolls Out Story Pins And More New Tools
November 28, 2020
Article Overview
10min readTo connect creators to Pinterest’s growing audience, the company introduced a suite of new tools and features. Considered to be “the biggest updates for creators yet”, the company launches a suite of creator-first features including Story Pins in beta, a new creator profile, and analytics tools to track performance.
Pinterest Story Pins
Pinterest – that has always been the place to discover ideas and the inspiration to achieve them – introduced its version of stories, Story Pins. It is a new type of Pin and publishing option that allows creators a way to tell active and visual stories. The feature is now popular throughout all social media platforms – such as Instagram, Facebook, Linked In, and so on.
It makes it easier for creators – who are eager to share their talent, passions, and creativity – to flow back directly into Pinterest without the need for a website. From creators to publishers, Pinterest’s vision is to make this a platform where anyone can share engaging multimedia stories, publish unique ideas, and discover great content. Here you can:
1. Share great, unique, and innovative ideas with up to 20 pages of videos, images, and text.
2. Add multiple images and record video.
3. Overlay text with custom fonts via Pinterest camera.
4. Easily create step-by-step stories, DIY tutorials, or detailed recipes.
5. Tag Story Pins or videos with topics or interests fueled by the trends and insights on Pinterest.
6. Add hashtags to group them by topics or interests.
Creators who had early access to Story Pins like Coco Bassey, Camille Styles, Shiquita from Unconventional Southern Belle, and Jazmine Ford of Finding Uphoria have already grown their audiences with this new feature.
However, each platform’s version of stories does something slightly different, and Pinterest is no exception. The company aims to make the pin ideas more engaging and actionable than regular pins in a variety of ways. The major difference between story pins and other types of stories is that these stories will not disappear after 24-hours. Other few benefits of story pins is that:
1. Like all Pins, Story Pins can be saved to a user board permanently and remain discover-able over time.
2. In addition to the user board, these pins will also appear across the home feed, search results, and places like the Today tab.
3. They will be distributed to other users via Pinterest’s visual discovery engine, which matches new content to people with relevant tastes and interests.
Pinterest wants to ensure that its platform always delivers fresh and positive ideas that are easy to find on the platform. They wanted it to be a place not just to be inspired, but a platform where people can inspire others too.
New Creator Profiles
Along with the debut of stories, Pinterest’s suite of new tools includes revamped creator profiles to feature the creator’s ideas front and center. It will also showcase the creator’s published content, not just the ideas they’ve saved to their boards.
With the new creator profiles, pinners can now message creators via the Contact or Message card. They can provide feedback to creators by reacting to the ideas they discover with a range of positive reactions like “Great idea,” “Love,” “Wow,” and “Thanks.”
Analytics Tools To Track Performance And Progress
Pinterest is launching new analytics tools as well as an engagement tab for creators to track performance and progress. Creators can also like or respond to photos on Pins, making it easier for creators to connect with their audience.
With Pin Stats, creators can see key metrics like impressions and engagement, and with the redesigned Analytics dashboard, a detailed view of content performance is also displayed.
With all these new publishing and measurement tools, creators get ways to easily publish immersive and extensive stories directly to Pinterest and reach Pinners looking for inspirational ideas and people to follow.
Story Pins is now available to selected creators in the U.S. and will continue to be rolled out over the coming months to international creators. However, pinners in the U.S. will start seeing this feature on iOS, Android, and the web at a closer timeline. All other new tools and features are live for Pinners with business accounts.
